Steps

1. Turn on your computer
2. Open up iTunes
3. Select a CD
4. Put the CD in your CD-ROM drive
5. Wait for the CD's information to appear in iTunes. If it doesn't appear automatically, it may not be encoded. Try clicking on Get Info, and see if it pops in. If not, just enter it manually.
6. Hit the buttons that reads 'Import CD'- if there are tunes you don't like on this CD, deselect them prior to importing.
7. iTunes will add the CD automatically
8. Sync your iPod. If you have chosen to Sync Automatically, the songs should be added. If Manually managing your music, you will need to find the new songs in your Music Library, select them, and then drag them to your iPod.

• Go to 'Edit' > 'Preferences' > 'Advanced' > 'Importing' Hit the drop down for 'On CD Insert:' Choose 'Ask to Import CD' or 'Import CD'. iTunes will either ask you to import the CD or automatically do it, depending on which you choose.

If you want to be able to just drag MP3s wherever you want them, then choose the MP3 encoding option - it works with all MP3 players, not just with iPods. The AAC format is iTunes' own format, and it will default to a decent quality. These files will not play on some MP3 players as they are native to iPod and iTunes. You can also choose several different levels of quality for these. 256 is recommended.
