Steps

  1. Make sure you are in the right age range. Any age above 13 is a good choice.
    • Make sure you have permission from your parents. Also, a Red Cross baby sitting course is very helpful and informational!
  2. Choose a name for your business, you can also create some business cards with your computer. Then advertise your business by posting it online and hang it around billboards or anywhere you know your poster is gonna be read.
  3. Choose the age range you want to baby sit. If you think taking care of little 5 year olds is hard, don't take that job. If you don't like taking care of infants, don't take care of them either!
  4. Decide what you will charge for babysitting. Charge the right amount of money, not too much or too little.
  5. Make sure you know how to gain control of a situation. Make sure ahead of time that one of your parents is going to be home, in case of an emergency.
  6. Talk to the parents of the child ahead of time, to figure out things about their daily lives. This includes how to discipline the child, basic food and eating habits, and rules.
  7. Pay attention! Don't be talking on the phone while the baby is playing. Watch them! This is exactly why you got the job, to watch the kids!
  8. Always keep the phone number of their parents by your side.

Tips

  • Advertise! No one will know until you put posters up!
  • Be lovable! Make a connection between the kid or infant. It may help to bring a few games, or crafts.
  • Ask the parents for emergency phone numbers. It will impress them and they may leave you a bigger tip!

Warnings

  • Take classes. If not, you will not know what to do and will be clueless.
  • There will be some life saving times! Know how to handle them.
