Steps

Create Rug Shampoo
  1. Mix about 1/8 of a cup with liquid laundry detergent and about 2/8 of softener in a bottle then add about 2 cups of hot water. Shake and mix it around.
  2. Decide on the method of cleaning. Now that you have your home made carpet cleaner there is two ways you can clan your rug or rugs.
Less Labor Intensive Method
  1. Let?s start with the fastest and less labor taking method first.
  2. You can use a home carpet cleaner if you have one that sucks up water or you can rent one form most hardware stores or even grocery stores.
  3. Simply add your home made cleaner and let the carpet cleaner do all the scrubbing and 99% of the water removal from your rug for you
Alternate Method
  1. Hose down the rug.
  2. Using a medium to soft scrub, hand scrub the entire rug using your home made cleaner. Keep in mind you want to pick a really hot day to clean your rug in this method as you need the rug to dry within less then a 24 hour time period. If not you will end up with a negative result just like when clothing is left wet for more then 24 hours. Your rug or rugs will start turning yellow and my start to smell witch at that point defects the prepuces of cleaning your rug.
  3. Rinse until there is no more detergent on the rug.
  4. Hang the rug on a fence or on anything that is elevated from the ground in order for the water to drip out of the rug wile still in the sun.
  5. Rotate the rug in different directions throughout the day to ensure that the rug gets a good amount of sun on all sides.
