How to Clean a Kitchen Colorado

As the main area for cooking and eating food, the kitchen should also be the cleanest and most sanitary place in your entire house. Unfortunately, for many families, due to the large amount of time spent in the kitchen, it is the least sanitary place. Here's a quick and, hopefully, painless how-to on cleaning up the kitchen.

Steps

  1. Wash off any kitchen cabinets with water and an all-cleaner ( like MrProper,Ajax...) Don't forget to clean the handles while you clean. Rinse everything and dry it with a microfiber cloth. If necessary clean the bottom of the cabinets.
  2. Remove the dust from the kitchen appliances on the counter. Be very carefully while cleaning an appliance like a dishwasher in chrome, don't use steel wool or any other sanding sponge, this can scratch the material. Wash the appliance or surface off with a microfiber cloth, rinse and dry it carefully to prevent any stripes.
  3. Clean the counter surfaces and tiles, if the grout is dirty, soak the grout in a mixture of water and baking soda for about 15 min, rinse and dry.
  4. Empty the trash can and wash it out. If the trash can is really dirty you can let it soak for a while to clean it easier. Before you put in a bag you can lay a paper towel sheet at the bottom to clean the trash can easier in the future.
  5. Clean any windows inside and outside in the kitchen.
  6. Sweep or vacuum the kitchen floor, being sure to move furniture as needed in order to access all surfaces. Use dustpan to pick up trash.
  7. Mop the floor. Use mop of choice and a bucket filled with hot soapy water. The soap can be of choice, but it is advised to use a cleaner made for floors, such as Pine Sol, Mr. Clean, or Spic n' Span. Follow the directions on the bottle for diluting the cleaner. Typically this is 1/4 cup cleaner mixed with 1 gallon warm or hot water. Dip mop into soapy water, squeeze out excess liquid from the mop, and wipe the floor. Repeat until the entire floor surface has been mopped. Use a squeegee to remove all the water and mop the floor dry. Allow to dry completely before re-entering kitchen.
    • To clean the floor more thoroughly you can scrub the floor carefully and squeegee the floor off. Mop the floor until it's dry.
  8. Wait until the floor is dry to place any furniture back.

Tips

  • Use a kitchen spray that disinfects, such as Lysol or Fantastic.
  • Use floor cleaner as directed on the bottle.
  • Regularly replace cleaning materials such as rags and sponges, to avoid contamination. To periodically decontaminate, one can microwave a wet sponge for two minutes or simply throw in the laundry with hot water and bleach.
  • If you have a cleaning sponge that is still good but needs cleaning, the best way to kill bacteria is to either microwave the sponge when it is soaked full of water for one to two minutes (watching it carefully to ensure that it doesn't dry out and catch on fire), or place the sponge in the dishwasher for a full cleaning cycle. You can also soak the sponge in bleach and soap, but this isn't as effective at killing bacteria.
  • Baking soda with ordinary white vinegar is an excellent cleaner for stainless steel (or any other) sink. It cuts through grease and doesn't scratch the surface.
  • Run the stove knobs, if removable, grates and drip pans in the dish washer weekly. Dry thoroughly and return to the range for later use. This is an easy way to keep the range parts clean.

Warnings

  • Keep all cleaning supplies and chemicals away from children
  • NEVER MIX products that contain BLEACH with products that contain AMMONIA. The mixture results in a very poisonous gas.
  • Never mix ANY cleaners together.
