Steps

  1. Get a long extending pole. These are available from hardware stores like Home Depot for about $20-$25.
  2. Get a soft bristle brush that also has the screw-on handle. It should screw onto the above pole.
  3. Make up a large bucket of warm or hot soapy water. Dish washing liquid will work fine.
  4. Starting at the highest point, spray from left to right all the way down with a long garden hose and a spray attachment. If you have a single story, you should be able to reach everything from the ground. Otherwise, you may need an extension ladder.
  5. Dip the brush into the soapy water, and do not shake off the excess. Wash what you can reach from the starting point, re-dipping your brush whenever it starts to dry. The brush should be dripping wet at all times. Before moving or changing positions, rinse the soap off of the area you just washed. If the suds run down to an area you have not yet washed, just rinse them off.
  6. Once you have washed all the areas you need to, put away your equipment and leave the house to dry on its own.

Tips

  • You could also use a hose with a soap dispenser and brush attached to it.

Warnings

  • Be careful around outlets and light fixtures.
  • Do not wash near or get your ladder near any overhead wires--it could be a shocking experience.
  • Be sure that your ladder has a solid base under it to ensure that you don't fall.

Things You'll Need

  • Garden hose
  • Bucket
  • Dish Soap
