  4. A warning will pop up stating something about system restore. Click Yes.
  5. Once it has completed loading, you should see a black background and white lettering on it saying "Safe Mode" on all four corners of the screen.
  6. Now the fun part....
  7. Click "Start".
  8. Then click on "User Accounts" or "Settings".
  9. Then click "Create Account."
  10. Click on "Administrative Account" when it asks what kind of account.
  11. Once you have created the account restart your computer.
  12. Be sure you have logged off or the new Administrative Account won't show up.
  13. Log in, selecting the new account you have created
  14. After you have finished what you want to do on the account restart your computer again.
  15. Then rapidly press F8.
  16. Scroll up to the "Safe Mode" and hit enter.
  17. After that just repeat steps 7 and 8.
  18. Instead of creating a new account, this time go into "Account Settings."
  19. Delete your account by clicking "Delete All Files".
  20. Finally restart your computer but don't do anything else or you will get caught.

Warnings

  • BE SURE YOU LOG OFF.
  • When restarting your computer use the welcome page start up to shut down the computer.
  • This will not work in a place where all the computers are networked together.
  • Changing or deleting the settings on a Windows computer almost invariably leads to frustration and disappointment. Therefore these instructions are not recommended for use on a computer you actually want to use.
  • The account that you log on to in safe mode must be an administrator account that is not passworded for this to work

You will right click on the folder and select Properties, and under the Security tab you might expect to see something like you would see in Windows 2000 - a list of Users and checkboxes for Allow and Deny. However, you won't see this, because Windows XP uses something called "Simple File Sharing." You can disable it in XP Professional, but not XP Home. Windows XP Home Edition was not designed for high security networking. It was designed for standalone workstations and home based Workgroup configurations.Fear not, there is a way around this (even if it is tedious).
